Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer officially opened The North Irish Brigade Depot at St Patrick's Barracks, Ballymena on 15 June 1965. The North Irish Brigade Depot had moved from Eglinton to St Patrick's Barracks, Ballymena on 2 April 1964.
The NIM, commanded by Lt Col V de P C Johnstone MBE RUR, attended Annual Camp at Gaerlochhead, Scotland (less A Coy to BAOR) for two weeks in June 1968.
The NIM, commanded by Lt Col J Hassett R IRISH, attended Annual Camp at Sennybridge, Wales for two weeks during July 1970. This was the one year in three when the NIM concentrated for a battalion Annual Camp. During the other two years companies dispersed to three separate camp locations.
The NIM, commanded by Lt Col G D Archer R IRISH, attended Annual Camp in three locations; A, C and Headquarters Companies at Okehampton and Watchet from 1-15 May, D Company and company Support Platoons to BAOR in June and B Company to Cyprus in October 1971.

The North Irish Militia was retitled North Irish Militia (4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers).
The North Irish Militia was retitled to 4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers (North Irish Militia) and abbreviated to 4 (V) R IRISH.
When the former parade ground at Long Kesh was put to other uses in 1971, it dealt a final blow to the hope that the North Irish Militia would be able to Troop their new Colour in Northern Ireland. With the full co-operation of the Manx authorities, it was decided to hold the parade during Annual Camp on the Isle of Man on 30 August 1972.
